Starting the vacation in Singapore turned out to be a good idea. There was very little culture shock, as most people spoke English, and getting food in the restaurants and food centers was super easy. Unfortunately, I was't taking many photos at this time of my vacation.
The downtown area is very modern and full of high-rise buildings.
Singapore is full of high end shopping. The whole island is a duty free area, so you can get good prices on all imported good. The biggest shopping area is on Orchard Road. The photo below shows the computer kiosks which are located on every block of Orchard Road as well as one of those "Starbucks Coffee" stores in the background. Felt right at home....
Leaving Singapore and getting a first glimse of Malaysia. The city is Johor Baharu, and many Malays commute daily from here to work in Singapore (it takes about 50 minutes). I thought that Singapore was a "true" island, but the bridge to Malaysia is on land - the strait has been filled in - at least next to the road.
